Head and neck cancer is a general term that covers many different types of cancer that start in the head and neck area: nasal and paranasal sinus, mouth and oropharyngeal, laryngeal, oesophageal, salivary gland, tonsil, nasopharyngeal and pharynx.

The Head and Neck SSG endeavours to deliver equity of access to the best medical practice for our patient population, promote positive patient experiences as well as ensuring that the services provided are safe, efficient and guided by evidence based best practice.

The Head and Neck SSG is the Upper Airway Tract cancer group for the Peninsula Cancer Alliance with a separate Endocrine and Thyroid Cancer SSG.

Currently head and neck cancers from North Devon are sent for surgery to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (RDE), and major head and neck cases from Torbay and South Devon are operated on by Torbay surgeons at the RDE.

Skull base patients are referred to either Plymouth (Derriford Hospital) or outside of the Peninsula Cancer Alliance.
