Join Northern Devon Healthcare Trust and Mummy’s Star to learn about not only Mummy’s Star and their work but more importantly provide the opportunity to learn how and why we can provide a positive pregnancy/post-natal experience for women diagnosed at this time.

Research shows that pregnant women with cancer can be treated as effectively as women who are not pregnant. In general, doctors try as far as possible to treat in the same way as a non-pregnant woman with the same cancer.

Because cancer in pregnancy is rare, there is less evidence available from large trials to guide treatment options. The right treatment for a woman depends on the type of cancer she has, its stage and how many weeks pregnant she is.

By the end of this session you will have a greater understanding of:

  • Symptoms/hidden symptoms to be aware of, especially for community midwives, having confidence to refer/ask for more specialist /senior input if not concerned
  • Treatment options potentially available many may think chemo is a no-go during pregnancy
  • Potential support needs acute and long-term e.g. termination, loss, breastfeeding/stopping, grief, trauma etc. for dad as well as mum
  • Resources to signpost to.

Please note this session is for healthcare staff, healthcare students and related professional partners.
