This July 2022 is Sarcoma Awareness Month!
July is Sarcoma Awareness Month, so what is sarcoma?
Sarcomas are rare cancers that develop in the supporting tissues of the body. Supporting tissues include bone, cartilage, tendons, fat and muscle. There are 2 main types of sarcoma:
- soft tissue sarcoma
- bone sarcoma (also called primary bone cancer)
Sarcoma UK are organising picnics over the summer to raise awareness and support and they have invited everyone to join them.
Bone Cancer Research Trust are using the month to run a few different campaigns and highlight the progress of their 2017-2022 strategy, The Biggest Ever Commitment To Primary Bone Cancer. They have also provided some very helpful infographics for people to share which highlight symptoms to be aware of.
Macmillan Cancer Support also have some incredibly useful resources on their website for anyone who wants to learn more about diagnosis and support for those living with Sarcoma.
Each year, about 3,300 people in the UK are diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma, and about 600 people are diagnosed with bone cancer. This July we want you to help raise awareness and support.
