The Cancer Care Map  is an online directory that helps people find cancer care and support services in their local area. People with cancer, their friends and family can either search for a service or can browse the types of services available, and this will flag up everything from support services embedded within the NHS, to smaller local charities and community organisations, offering care and support to those affected by cancer during and beyond treatment.

Staying active by doing 150 minutes of moderate exercise each week is recommended by the Department of Health and has been shown to be a major factor in maintaining people's health and positive cancer outcomes after treatment.

Moving more can help counteract fatigue and other side effects of treatment. it can also improve your mood and mind set, sleep and feeling of wellbeing.

A range of exercise videos have been created  especially for people with long term health conditions, who may experience the common symptoms associated with these, such as pain, stiffness and fatigue. Good Appetite, healthy weight:

Eating a varied and healthy diet is important for all of us. Following a cancer diagnosis and treatment you may decide to make some changes to your eating.

Choosing healthier options more regularly, may reduce the risk of cancer reoccurring, development of a new cancer and reduce risk of other diseases such as heart disease and diabetes.

Therefore it is important to follow a varied healthy diet. You can do this by:

• reducing your intake of high energy foods and sugary drinks
• eating at least 5 portions of different coloured fruit and vegetables per day
• reduce your intake of red meat to no more than 500g a week and eat minimal amounts of processed meats
• eating less salty foods and processed foods
• increase your fibre foods (whole grains, pulses, fruit and vegetables
• limit your alcohol intake. Spread the alcohol units out over a week, including alcohol free days  each week.

However, during and after some cancer treatments people may find that eating is different from how it used to be and you may need to alter your diet in other ways to help with recovery or symptom management. For example, choosing high energy options if weight loss is a problem, changing the texture of foods if chewing becomes difficult or reducing fibre following a bowel operation.

If you are concerned about your eating or weight ask your clinical Nurse specialist to refer you to a dietitian.

Stopping smoking is a very positive thing that people can do to maintain their health during and after cancer.

Smoking can make some treatments like radiotherapy less effective and can make the side effects of radiotherapy worse for some patients.

Smoking is also a risk factor for developing further cancers or health problems if you have successfully had your cancer treated. We encourage patients to engage with their local smoking cessation group to help you stay healthy and enjoy the benefits of your treatment.

You are 3x more likely to give up smoking with support and treatment- lets dot his together.
